Charm of Animal Transformation
A magical charm that changes the user into an animal
When worn as an amulet, this charm transforms its wearer into a specific animal form. She gains the animal’s Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores but retains her own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. She gains all the characteristics of the animal but loses her own (spellcasting, low-light vision, etc). The wearer’s type and subtype change to the new form.
Upon changing, the subject regains lost hit points as if she had rested for the night (though this does not restore temporary ability damage or provide any other benefits of resting, except ability damage caused by the spell; see below). Each hour she remains in animal form, she must make a Will save (DC 14). If she fails, she suffers 1d4 points of Intelligence damage as her memories begin to slip away. Once she reaches an Intelligence of 3, the damage ceases, and she is permanently trapped in animal form.
Unless the wearer is trapped in animal form, the effect lasts for a maximum of 3 hours or until she removes the charm (which only she can see while in animal form).
Weak transmutation; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, shape of the beasts; Price 1200 stl; weight 0.25 lb.

These amulets were once widely used by the elves of Krynn to avoid detection during the Age of Dreams. The use of these amulets stopped as the elves discovered that they sometimes left the user trapped in permanent animal form.
The group encountered one of these charms while traversing the Sla-Mori into Pax Tharkas. That particular charm changed the user into a fox.
